From a biblical standpoint, every born again Christian is a saint, a member of the body of Christ, His church. Some examples: “that you receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints …” (Romans 16:2), “For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12)
I Corinthians 1:2 states it this way: “To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy…” The words “sanctified” and “holy” come from the same Greek root “hagios” and describes those “consecrated to God” and referred to as “saints.” Saints are not just those in heaven, but also here on earth. Christians are saints by virtue of their connection with Jesus Christ, and we are called to increasingly allow our daily life to more closely match our position in Christ. This is the biblical description and calling of all saints.
A “seasoned” saint, then, would be those who have been through a few more years of growth in the Lord, experienced some setbacks and heartaches, enjoyed some time of triumph and joy, and have developed some wisdom and experience to share with those who are traveling the road behind us.
Our goals for the Seasoned Saints ministry include to create increasingly deeper fellowship with our fellow Christians, to continue to look for opportunities to minister to others, to make that sure other senior adults in the community have a chance to respond to the truths of the gospel, to be a source of core support for our church leaders at the same time that we encourage younger leaders to emerge, to share our experiences with younger families as encouragement to them, and to learn to worship wholeheartedly here on earth as we eagerly anticipate worshiping in Heaven.
