Can’t Come Down
Nehemiah 6
Satan cannot destroy us as believers but he will try to distract us.
The enemy sent an invite to Nehemiah four times to come to a meeting. His reply in verse 3: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?” When you are working on something you are passionate about, life becomes more purposeful.
How do we handle distractions?
Get a better No. Nehemiah’s answer to the invite was a definite No, which is a complete sentence. When we learn to say No, our Yes will become stronger.
Don’t let rumors or lies distract you. Nehemiah’s enemies threatened him with rumors and lies that he and the Jews planned to revolt and Nehemiah would become king. Verse 9: …But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.” He didn’t worry about people talking about him. He prayed about it and focused on his calling.
Watch out for friends. We need to surround ourselves with friends who encourage us in our calling and not distract us.
We will never finish what we don’t start. What is it that God is calling you to do?
