Lavished & Loved, Part 2
Let Love Land
1 John 4:16-18 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
Review: The story of the prodigal son shows us that the bad things we do, do not disqualify us from God’s love (younger son) nor the good things we do earn for us God’s love (older son). But God’s unconditional, extravagant love is poured on us through our “sonship” bought with a price by Jesus Christ and His death, burial and resurrection…so Let God Love You!
How do you let God’s love land in your life?
- Point 1: Acknowledge God’s father love for you. John 5:18 For this reason they tried all the more to kill Him; not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.
- Point 2: Learn to love yourself. Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. ’This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
- Point 3: Be intentional about receiving God’s love. Psalm 63:1-8 You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek You; I thirst for You,my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen You in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and Your glory. Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You. I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise You.
