Eat Together
Matthew 9:9-13
Matthew 11:18-19 “For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”
Why Eat?
God created you too. Psalm 139:13: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
Eating connects us with others. Acts 2:42 “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayer.”
Eating is symbolic. 1 Corinthians 11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
Eating is spiritual. Revelation 19:9 Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”
Why Did Jesus Eat with Others? Matthew 9:9-13 gives the answer. Jesus called Matthew to follow Him and went with him to his house to eat. The Pharisees questioned the disciples why Jesus was eating with tax collectors and with sinners. … Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Jesus ate to slow down and connect.
Jesus ate to enter another’s world.
Jesus ate to give life.
Why You Should Intentionally Eat With Others?
Because it was important to Jesus.
Because I have Jesus living in me.
Because people enjoy eating.
Because it’s already in my schedule.
