Esther 3 & 4
‘Do You Have a Castle?’
Esther chapter 3 introduces a new character: Haman, the Agagite. 1 Samuel 15 tells the story of God’s command to King Saul to destroy the Amalekites because of the evil they did to Israel. Saul was disobedient and allowed Agag, King of the Amalekites to live. Samuel had Agag killed but as a result of this family history, Haman hated the Jews.
When Esther’s Uncle Mordecai failed to kneel down & honor Haman, he decided not only to have Mordecai killed but also all the Jewish people.
In Esther chapter 4:13, Mordecai appeals to Queen Esther to help save her people: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
Queen Esther had been protected in her castle with everything she needed. Now she had to face a difficult situation and she did so by asking those involved to pray and fast.
Do you have a castle?
Point 1: What’s your castle that keeps you from hearing God and acting on it?
Point 2: Does your castle keep you from experiencing God’s blessing in your life?
Point 3: Can your castle be used for God’s plan?
Esther’s example is an encouragement to us to be available to God’s purpose for our lives and to seek Him in prayer for guidance for His will and for courage during difficult challenges.
