Does God Still Heal?
Galatians 6:7-9 NIV John 14:12 “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even great things than these…”
Two things to remember:
Our God still heals.
But He doesn’t heal everyone all the time. 2 Timothy 4:20 “Erastus stayed in Corinth, and I left Trophimus sick in Miletus. 1 Timothy 5:23 “…use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.”
Three Reasons Jesus didn’t do miracles:
Jesus refused to perform miracles to prove Himself. Mark 8:11-12 “The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test Him, they asked Him for a sign from heaven. He sighed deeply and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.”
Jesus never performed a miracle that interfered with God’s ultimate plan. Matthew 26:53-54 “Don’t you realize that I could ask my Father for thousands of angels to protect us, and He would send the instantly? But if I did, how would the Scriptures be fulfilled that describe what must happen now?”
Jesus didn’t do miracles where there was no faith. Matthew 13:59 “And He did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.” Mark 5:34 “…Daughter, your faith has healed you.” Luke 17:19 “…Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” Mark 10:52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you…” Mark 9:24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief.”
Our faith isn’t based on what God does. Our faith is based on who God is.
The highest purpose Jesus has for us on earth is not to heal our physical bodies but to save our souls. In Luke 5:17-39 we are told the story of the healing of the paralytic after his friends let him down from the roof in front of Jesus. The first thing Jesus said was, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.”
