How important is today? We are to focus on today as a gift from God.
Day is spoken many times in the Bible such as Day of Rest, Day of the Lord, 7 Days of Creation, Day of Salvation, Day of Atonement, Third Day, 40 Days. Even many songs are about the subject day: When we all get to Heaven…what a day of rejoicing that will be, O Happy Day, One Day At a Time, One day He’s coming.
Point 1: Your Days Are Limited.
Psalm 39:4-5 “Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before You. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. “Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be. “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in You.
Point 2: You have no promise of tomorrow.
James 4:13-15 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
Point 3: Today plus Jesus changes everything.
In Luke 19:5-10 we are given the story of Zacchaeus’ encounter with Jesus. The result is found in verses 9-10: Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
We can’t change yesterday and tomorrow is not promised. Today is a gift from God to use for His glory. Lamentations 3:22-23 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.
