What A Day!
Slow Down
Matthew 11:28-30 NIV “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Message: Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
A day is an incredible gift—what are you going to do with it?
How to get hurry out of your life:
Point 1: Slow down to be with God. Psalm 46:10-11 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Mother Teresa: If you’re too busy to pray, you’re too busy.
Point 2: Slow down to make a difference with people. The Bible never shows Jesus running…He allowed time for relationships. Mark 2:14 As He walked along, He saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow Me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed Him.
John Mark Comer in his book The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry: “Hurry and love are incompatible.” Some of our worst moments and decisions happen when we are in a hurry.
Point 3: Slow down to enjoy now. Mark 2:15 While He was reclining at the table in Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with Jesus and His disciples, for there were many who were following Him.
Rushing increases stress, decreases joy, and makes us less productive.
Three Challenges:
Number 1: Question your contentment level.
Number 2: Practice saying No!
Number 3: Put down some speed bumps.
