Rock & Roll (The Rock we need to roll as a Christian)
Good Vibrations: Is God Good?
Job 1:1-6, 2:3-6, 42:12-17
Everything improves when we realize that God is good…gratitude, prayer life, trust, hope, confidence, understanding, etc. When we don’t understand that God is good, we will be on a seesaw…up when things are going well and down when things are difficult.
Job was incredibly blessed so it was easy for him to worship God for His goodness. God had placed a hedge of protection around Job and his family. Things changed when God gave Satan permission to test Job. Yet Job continued to worship God…not from His hand (what God could give him) but His face (His presence): Job 1:21 “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”
There is spiritual warfare going on in our families and churches. We have an enemy wanting to devour and destroy relationships. Faith can waver when we are exhausted. Satan gets the victory when we doubt God’s goodness. What happens when we doubt God’s goodness? (1) We start claiming credit for good things in our lives and lose a sense of gratitude. (2) We will forget Who our source of life is and stop praying. (3) We do not trust God in difficult times. (4) We will become pessimistic about the future.
God has a good plan for our lives because He is a good God! God restored Job’s fortunes. Job 42:12 “The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part…” He is a God who restores. 1 Peter 5:10: “And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”
