Learning to Lean
Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.
How do we put this important verse into practice? Our paths are not always easy. Often we are on straight paths and are able to see ahead but then there are crooked paths that blindside us. We are told to trust God and He will make sense of it.
Here are tangible ways to measure trust in God:
Check your preconceived limitations. Check to see where you are struggling to trust God. Genesis 22:1-19 shows Abraham trusting God with his son when God commanded him to sacrifice Isaac.
How big is your God? What God has for you is bigger than anything you need to give up. Genesis 15:4-5 contains the promise of God to Abraham to make his offspring as the stars, which are beyond count.
How ready are you for discomfort and distraction? There should be no surprise when it comes our way. In Matthew 14:22-31 Jesus walked on the water and Peter asked to walk to him. He was safe until he saw the wind, became afraid, and started to sink. How often do we take a great step of faith for Jesus and then doubt arises when we face the wind? Expecting it makes it easier to face.
Let us become world-class leaners… and lean on the everlasting arms.
