A Moment or A Movement
Proverbs 29:18, Acts 2:42-47, Matthew 28:16-20,
Matthew 22:35-40
Moments are usually self-centered and a one-time thing. Movement goes beyond moments and becomes something to share and empowers us to move forward. We can get excited about a moment but need a vision to become part of a movement. Proverbs 29:18: “Where there is no vision, the people perish…”
There were moments in the ministry of Jesus like the feeding of the 5000. For many, it was a moment to be fed physically and did not result in a movement forward into a relationship with Jesus. For others, it was a movement forward to satisfy spiritual hunger.
Acts 2:42-47 describes a movement in the early church. They were empowered by the Holy Spirit to take the gospel out to the community and wanted others to know about a moment when they received the filling of the Holy Spirit. Verse 47:”…And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
NFL football teams have a vision, mission, and strategy in their goal to win the Super Bowl. How much more do we as a church need a vision, mission, and strategy?
Vision: To dynamically impact our community with the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Mission: Matthew 28:16-20 gives our mission, called the Great Commission. Verse 19-20: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…”
Strategy: Matthew 22:35-40 gives our strategy: “…Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Love God, Connect People, Make a Difference.
