The Hill
Series: God @ The Movies: Encouragement
Text: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12
The Christian movie The Hill reminds us how powerful encouragement can be. In our text, Paul tells the church in Thessalonica the importance of remembering what God has done for them. The words “you know” are mentioned four times and “you remember” one time.
There are times in every believer’s life that they will struggle with their faith, times when their faith is tested. God gives structure in His word to grow faith, to be encouraged and to be an encourager. “…faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17
What Paul tells us to remember:
Number 1: Remember the day you received Christ. This is a great way to share Christ with others, by giving your personal testimony.
Number 2: Remember the cost of your salvation. Never forget the price Christ paid and also remember those who were a part of bringing you to Christ.
Number 3: Remember the love. God demonstrated His love in providing our salvation. We show love when we share the Gospel message with others.
Number 4: Remember the transformation. Because He first loved us, we want to live lives worthy of our calling.
Remembering “the work” of God in our past is what provides perspective to do “the will” of God in the present.
Application: Who do you know who needs a guided tour down their spiritual “memory lane?”
