Good God Almighty,
Protected by Power
Psalm 23:4b
Rod is a weapon. It represents power, strength & authority. 1 Samuel 17:34-35 tells how David protected his sheep from wild animals. Staff is a hook that is an extension of the Shepherd’s hand. It stands for love, concern, and compassion.
Four questions:
- Do you see God as more powerful than you? Psalm 61:1-3: “...lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe.” Do we leave God out of events in our life, thinking we can handle it? We need Him in every area of our life. Our God is omnipotent (all-powerful).
- Is anything too hard for God? We should look at our powerful God and not at our situation. Genesis 18:14: “...Is anything too hard for the Lord?”
- Do you believe Jesus is able to get you through whatever life brings? Matthew 9:28:”...the blind men came to Him, and He asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” We should come to God with expectancy and confidence that He is able to take care of us.
- Am I okay with immeasurably more? Ephesians 3:20: ”Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us…” We should submit to His will for our life for He knows what is best for us. Mark 14:35-36: Prayer of Jesus: Going a little farther, He fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from Him. “Abba, Father,” He said, “Everything is possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.” That should be our prayer also.
