The Foundation of a Comeback
Nehemiah 1
Jesus is a dream restorer. A comeback is a restart and that is what we need as we greet 2022.
God uses ordinary people to do extra-ordinary things. Nehemiah was an ordinary person who was the king’s cupbearer, a position calling for a person of trustworthy character. As a result, he developed a strong relationship with the king.
Nehemiah was troubled and prayed about a situation regarding the Jews who had returned to their country to rebuild. When he shared the news with the king and queen, he was given permission to go to his country to help.
Nehemiah gives us an example of how to make a comeback:
Sit down and weep. Nehemiah 1:4: “And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven.” What brings us to tears also reveals where our passion lies.
Kneel down and pray. When something is big enough to cry about, it is big enough to pray about. What we pray about reflects what we believe about God. There are 12 prayers in the book of Nehemiah that he prayed. Remember: God plus you can do anything.
Stand up and act. Nehemiah was willing to take crazy but calculated risk by approaching the king with his request. He did not know what the king’s reaction would be yet he was willing to take the chance to help his people.
Psalm 34:8: The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart…
When we are broken over a situation, we can trust God. It is amazing what God can and will do!
