The Resurrection—Truth, Transformation & Triumph
Text: 1 Corinthians
The Truth of the Resurrection: Paul gives reasons to believe the truth of the resurrection. There was also a multitude of eyewitnesses to the event. The disciples would not have given up their lives for a story that was not true. The cross was a stumbling block for the Jews because they expected their Messiah to come as the victorious cosmic ruler. The rapid growth of the church itself is another proof of the resurrection.
Transformation of the Resurrection: Christ was raised from the grave and so will we be raised when He returns for His church.
Triumph of the Resurrection: One day everything will be made right. Death will be no more. We will put on the righteous robes of Jesus. His return should give us the urgency to share the Gospel with others so they will be ready for His return also.
Righteousness received (past): We have been made right by what Jesus did for us, dying on the cross in our place and taking our sin upon Himself. Sanctification applied (present): It is a state or process of being set apart and made holy. Glorification ahead (future): Believers have the blessed hope of perfect righteousness in our future eternal state. Earth is not our home therefore our focus should be on heaven.
