Three Powerful Truths About the Lord’s Supper
Matthew 26:17-29
The Lord’s Supper reminds us:
1. To be united as a body. 1 Corinthians 11:18: In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent, I believe it. It is about the church body doing life Jesus’ way….not my way or your way.
2. Of Jesus’ sacrifice. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26: For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, after supper He took the Cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
3. That Jesus cares for us. John 13:2-5: During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands and that He had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside His outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around His waist. Then He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around Him. Jesus’ act of service to His disciples is tied to the Last Supper. It is more than just juice and crackers. It is a time of communion with Jesus. What’s going on in your life that you want to tell Jesus?
